Chapter Four Question # one

1. After considering the various types of digital technologies presented in this chapter, what three pieces of equipment do you think you would most want for your future or current classroom? Explain why you selected these three and how you would use them for teaching and learning.
As everyone knows by now I want to become an elementary school art teachers. My first piece of equipment that I would love to have for my classroom would be a digital camera. I would want my camera to have Mircodrive so my students and I can take hundreds of pictures before we have to download them to the computer. Digital cameras have a small LCD screen on the back of the camera so you can see what you have just taken for a picture. Having the students being able to see if their photo came out the way they wanted it is important. Its important because they are going to be working with that image. This would be great for my art room because my students can actually go outside or inside and take pictures of things that they actually would want to work with. Either it being a simple drawing or a collage.
Another great piece of equipment that I would LOVE to have would be a graphic tablet. This device allows you to use a stylus (a pen-shaped device) with an electronic pad to draw diagrams and also allows you to create artwork!!! Its almost like a key board typing words onto your computer screen but it’s a plastic board that that you can draw on that shows up on the computer screen. This would be such a wonderful tool to use in my art work. My students could draw original images, enhance computer-generated images and photographs. The students would have so much fun and then can create graphic designs and incredible digital artwork.
My last request would be a Scan converter. These devices display computer images to the entire class on a large classroom television monitor. This would be great for my classroom cause I can display artist work large so that the class can see what famous artist have done throughout history. It will give my students ideas, inspire them, show them the wonders of art history, and no one will even have to leave their seats or complain that they can’t see!

Changing Lives

I didn’t realize how important assistive technology was for disabled people. Everyone knows how rapidly technology has grown but with that so has assistive technology. Although not many people know about this type of incredible technology. This type of technology changes lives of many people and also makes their dreams come true. Students with disabilities are extremely smart but with their lack of movement or speech they can’t express their intelligences as easy as we do. With the right assistive technology they can get through to the world and share their brilliant minds. With these technologies they can take test, speak, move better, communicate, and even play music (special horn with touch pads and hand made arms to play the piano)! University of Michigan helps students get the assistive technology they need. The younger they are at learner about these assistive technologies the quicker they will master them. Once they have mastered them later on they can then focus on the curriculum and the material of school work. Technology changes their lives and makes a better future for them!!

Blogs In My Future Classroom

  • My future career goal is to become an Art teacher. Throughout my whole life art has taken up a huge part of my heart. I love everything about it and I believe that art can solve anything. One major reason why I want to become an art teacher is because I want my students to be able to express what they are feeling through their works of art. It’s a great way to get your feelings, emotions, stress, and what you care about out so the whole world can see. Students keep so much built up inside them that they should be able to have a way of letting it all out. There are so many ways that art can express and I want to teach that to elementary school kids.

  • Blogging would be a great tool for my students in the art room and at home. My students would be able to post their art work on their web page and also write a paragraph or so on what their art piece means to them. Or maybe what they were feeling at the time they started their project. This allows their classmates and teacher to really get to know one another and also respond to them. They would be allowed to put their art work from school and home on their page. Write what they want about their work. Also they would write ideas on what an interesting project might be. Things they want to learn more about in class. The might also put poems or their own writing up and people could respond to those as well. As a teacher my assignment for blogging would be to have each student post a piece of their work or idea on their website each week. Then to respond to at least three of their classmates work.

  • I would recommend my student to really try and get involved because I believe that they would really get into it. Even if they didn’t get into blogging it still would be a great experience and they would at least come out of it with new ideas and thoughts. I also would recommend my students to not be negative about others work. Art work is never bad; it’s just understood in a different way. A huge thing to tell your students is that you need to be carefully not to give out any of your major information. Like your address, full name, SSN, and other personal information. Tell them that this is not completely private.

  • Blogging would help my students see other people’s view and opinions. They would be able to express themselves in a way that makes them feel proud. Also blogging allows my students to get future ideas and thoughts on other projects them might want to explore. Their writing would become better because since they understand that other classmates will be viewing their writing, they would want to proof read it more. On web logs students would be able to check what the assignments are and the emails for teachers and classmates. There also would be no excuses in not being able to turn in or lose your homework!
